Dallas Cup XXXVII Super Group taking shape

One month from now North Texas soccer fans will get their yearly treat of Dallas Cup soccer.  Once again the Super Group is looking wonderful as 12 quality squads from around the world will be fighting it out for the prestigious youth title.  Kicking off March 20th the Dallas Cup will give us a solid week of great youth soccer.

Brazilian powers Fluminense FC will be attending.  This will be the third Dallas Cup appearance by Fluminense. They have reached the tournament’s semifinal round in both of their previous appearances, with nine players from those teams having gone on to play professional soccer in five different countries.

Highlighting the Super Group will be the US Under 20 Mens National Team.  This will be the 6th appearance for the national side at Dallas Cup.  “We’re looking forward to once again participating in the Dallas Cup,” said US U20 Men’s National Team head coach Tab Ramos. “It gives us a perfect opportunity to evaluate our players against international competition on our home soil.”

CD Guadalajara and CF Monterrey are making the short trip north from Mexico and both have eyes on a deep run.  The talented Mexican sides always bring bite to the tournament and I would expect at minimum one of these to be making at least a semifinal appearance.

From England we will be treated to Fulham FC and Middlesbrough.  Both clubs are known for their quality youths with Fulham having recent success in Dallas winning the title in 2013.  Kyoto Sanga FC will extend the Japanese representation at Dallas Cup to 11 of the last 12 events.  Kyoto Sanga is one of the oldest clubs in Japan.

Unfortunately the prestigious tournament has seen two high profile sides withdraw in the past week as Southampton from England and the defending champions Cortiba FC from Brazil both pulled out.  The Cortiba club is having financial difficulties while Southampton are facing league scheduling conflicts back home.

Fulham FC - England
Middlesbrough FC - England
Fluminense FC - Brazil
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim - Germany
Kyoto Sanga FC - Japan
CD Guadalajara - Mexico
CF Monterrey - Mexico
USA Under 20 National Team
FC Dallas - USA
Real Salt Lake - USA
