This was an epic battle in the semifinals of the 2012 Big 12 Womens Soccer Tournament.  When the dust finally settled the cinderella run by TCU was intact as they knocked off Texas in penalty kicks after a scoreless match.

TCU had upset regular season Big 12 champions West Virginia 2-0 on Wednesday.  The West Virginia win coupled with a win over the Longhorns two weeks ago and TCU came into the game with confidence brimming.

Despite plenty of shots on the night, neither side generated many true quality scoring chances.  Of the 26 shots taken during the match only 5 were on frame.  The best chance of the night came in the closing minutes of overtime and it fell to Texas.  A freekick found the head of Lindsey Meyer who put the ball on goal.  TCU keeper Vittoria Arnold was up to the task though as she deflected the ball off the crossbar and the game stayed scoreless to penalty kicks.

TCU was up first in the penalties and Lindsy Schafer finished calmly.  TCU took the advantage when Chantale Campbell put her kick off the right post and out.  After that both teams scored with their 2nd and 3rd shooters to send the penalties to the 4th round with TCU leading 3-2.

Monica Alvarado had her kick saved giving Texas the opportunity to tie up the spotkicks with Julie Arnold.  Vittoria Arnold made the save though and TCU maintained their advantage.  Kelly Johnson put the final dagger as she fired home the winning penalty and TCU moves on to the Big 12 Championship match on Sunday.

TCU is the first #8 seed to ever make a Big 12 title game.  The match is Sunday afternoon 1:00 on Fox Sports where the Lady Frogs will face Baylor.
