TCU grabs win over Iowa State

The TCU womens soccer team were in need of a big win to improve their conference standing in the Big 12 and solidify their place in the coming conference tournament.  Not to mention give them some much needed confidence as well.

Friday night Iowa State came calling to Fort Worth and the Lady Frogs got that important victory.  A second half goal from Michelle Prokof in the 68th minute of play proved to be the difference.

It was a game that Iowa State was on the attack for much of.  In fact the Cyclones outshot TCU 22-8 on the night.  Freshman goalkeeper Shannon Coffer had a monster game in the TCU nets as she notched a ridiculous 10 saves on the night.

"Shannon was really good," raved head coach Eric Bell. "She gets a lot of credit for the "W" with her play. She made some big saves and I thought the organization and communication out of the back line was really good. I thought she had an outstanding game."

In the 68th minute TCU made a strong push downfield and earned a corner kick. Iowa State cleared the ball from danger but Jennifer Donegan picked up the loose ball. She sent a long feed down field and found Kelly Johnson, who won a battle with her defender to send a perfect cross to the center of the six-yard box. Jobe had come out to cut off the cross and missed leaving Prokof with an easy finish.

With the victory TCU improves to 6-8-3 on the year and 2-4-1 in Big 12 play.  They will close out the regular season next Friday as they host powerful Baylor.
