TCU soccer head coach Eric Bell announced the addition of a trio of freshman to the roster in advance of the spring season. Two of the three additions were members of the spring 2016 signing class but missed the fall campaign while competing with their national team at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Papua New Guinea. Tayla Christensen was a forward for New Zealand, while Emily Alvarado served as a goalkeeper for Mexico. Graduating early from high school, Ariana Owens begins her collegiate career a semester early. She is a native of Austin, Texas.

Alvarado was a big part of Mexico qualifying for the 2016 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup. She appeared in two games, posting a shutout in one during the World Cup. She was the youngest member to represent Mexico in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada. Her international career kick-started in 2014 when she was the starting goalkeeper for Mexico in the 2014 U17 FIFA Women's World Cup and 2014 CONCACAF U17 World Cup Qualifiers. In addition to her time spent with Mexico, she played club soccer for Texas Rush.

"Emily is a big time goalkeeper," raved Bell. "Obviously with the national team experience with Mexico, she has the ability to come here and immediately impact our team."

Christensen scored the game-winning goal in New Zealand's opening game win over Ghana at the U-20 World Cup. She has been member of New Zealand's U17 Soccer team, participating in the 2012 and 2014 FIFA Women's World Cup. In addition to her international experience, she spent her youth career playing for the Claudlands Rovers.

"Tayla is a young lady who we believe will have a huge impact in our program," said Bell. "She can score goals a lot of different ways. She's also very athletic and technical. Her national team experience will hopefully allow her to impact the team right away."

Owens is a graduate of UT High School. She also spent time at Round Rock High School where she earned first-team all-district honors after leading the team in scoring as a junior. Her efforts on the soccer pitch earned her a pair of invites to the USA Soccer youth national camp. With Lonestar Soccer Club, she was twice among the ECNL Top 150 goal scorers. In 2015, Lonestar advanced to nationals and finished eighth.

"We are excited to welcome Ariana to TCU," said Bell. "She is a young lady whom the Frog family is going to enjoy watching over the coming years. Ariana is an athletic, attacking player who we expect will have a big impact on the program. She has enrolled early to start preparing for the 2017 season."

All three athletes will be freshmen in the fall.
