TCU Women's Soccer close successful road trip

It was a difficult road trip to open the season.  While most Big 12 soccer programs are playing home games to open the season, TCU hit the road for their first 4 matches of 2013.  Last weekend they opened in Wyoming splitting a pair of games losing to Wyoming and beating Air Force.

This weekend was even more challenging as they traveled to Baton Rouge to play LSU Friday night.  The TU defense held 25th ranked LSU to only 3 shots on goal the entire match as the two teams played to a scoreless draw.  TCU keeper Vittoria Arnold earned the shutout.

On Sunday the TCU women looked to build on the positive result as they closed out the road trip in Houston facing off against Houston Baptist.  After a slow start TCU got going and ended up squeeking out a 2-1 victory in overtime.  After a scoreless opening half, TCU got on the board first in the 52nd minute as Makenzie Koch knocked in a ball from Bobbi Clemmer

It looked like the lead would hold as TCU led into the final 10 minutes, but a late penalty kick would send the game to overtime.  In the extra period TCU scored a wonderful game winner in the 92nd minute of play.   Maddie Payne worked the ball deep into the penalty box area and fed Madeline Hamm, crossed to a waiting Michelle Prokof on the far post. The freshman headed the ball to back to a  Koch who buried the winner.

"When we put schedule together, we knew it was going to be a test," said Bell. "To come away 2-1-1 is not exactly what we all wanted but we are happy none-the-less. This road swing helped us grow as a team, but we are excited to play at home and have a home crowd."

The Lady Frogs head home now and will play locally their next 6 games.  Five home games along with a short trip over to Dallas to face rivals SMU.  Next weekend TCU will host Northern Illinois Friday and North Texas on Sunday.
