Overtime no problem. It looks like the offseason conditioning and preparations were spot on for the TCU womens soccer team as they opened the season with a pair of overtime wins on the East Coast this weekend.  On Friday TCU knocked off Maryland 2-1 and then followed that up on Sunday with a thrilling victory over Navy.

TCU 2 Maryland 1
Friday offered a stiff test of a season opener as the girls travelled to face the Terps in Maryland.  Both sides would trade goals in quick succession midway through the opening half.  TCU would strike first as an Emma Heckendorn free kick was headed on by Brittany Little and nudged home by Meghan Murphy.  Maryland would strike right back scoring less than a minute later to tie tings back up.  Goalkeeper Katie Lund would replace Courtney Hofer for the second half and make several big saves to keep the match even.  TCU would win the match in overtime when Michelle Prokof pounced on a bobble by the Maryland keeper.  A Ryan Williams cross was mishandled allowing Prokof to knock home the winner.

TCU 1 Navy 0 in OT
After a quiet opening half things opened up afte the break. It looked like TCU had grabbed the lead in the 55th minute as a set piece casued problems for Navy. The initial shot was saved with Emma Heckendorn poking home the rebound. Unfortunately it was waved off as the linesman flagged for offside.  TCU goalkeeper Katie Lund was called into action after to keep the game scoreless as she made two fine saves over the final 15 minutes.   Just like Friday, the match would require overtime to find a winner and it was once again TCU who would rise to the challenge. Just after the 103rd minute Tara Smith earned a dangerous free kick which Heckendorn took quickly catching Navy off guard. Lauren Sajewich was on the spot to head home the game winner and giving TCU a perfect weekend on the road in the Northeast.

The two wins to open the season mark TCU's first 2-0 start since 2009.  They'll continue on the road next weekend when the girls travel to face Lamar in Beaumont, Texas. After that it is a five match homestand featuring marquee matches against Illinois and Washington State.
