The TCU womens soccer team split a pait of Mountain West Conference road games this weekend.  On Friday the girls fell 4-1 in Provo Utah against the 16th ranked BYU women.  The Lady Frogs rebounded on Sunday as they won 1-0 at New Mexico.

TCU 1  New Mexico 0
Senior Angie Nickens netted a goal in the 34th minute off a corner kick to give TCU a 1-0 conference victory over New Mexico Sunday afternoon.  With the win, TCU, who moved to 7-7-0 on the year and 2-1-0 in conference action, has posted the most total wins in head coach Dan Abdalla's tenure, while also bettering its win total from a year ago in conference play after only three matches.

"We worked really well as a team and I thought we controlled the pace of the game well," said sophomore Lizzie Batten.

Early in the contest, Cheryl Martin looked to put TCU on the board, but watched as her header sailed wide of UNM goalkeeper Shannon Adriana. Both Jackie Torda and Lizzy Karoly almost netted goals midway through the half, but had their shots blocked by the Lobo defense.  Nickens would score the lone goal of the match off an assist by Michelle Nguyen in the 34th minute to give TCU the victory and net her second goal of the season. Following Nickens goal, Karoly almost increased the Horned Frog lead, but couldn't connect after blasting a shot from the right side of the box. Karoly's shot hit the post and bounced off the backline.  After the period, Torda almost cracked the scoring column, but watched as her shot sailed wide of the post. Katie Howard, a freshman from St. Louis, tried to connect midway through the second half, but had her shot saved by Adragna.

TCU 1  BYU 4
Michelle Nguyen netted a goal in the 12th minute of the match, but it wasn't enough as No. 16 BYU defeated the Horned Frogs 4-1 Thursday night at South Stadium.  In the first half, Nguyen looked to put TCU on the board early, but saw her shot sail wide of Cougar goalkeeper Erika Woodbury. A minute later, BYU took a 1-0 advantage early in the match when Katie Fellows scored off an assist from Katie Larkin.  Nguyen would tie the match at 1-1 at the 11:52 mark, scoring off an assist from Lizzy Karoly for her fifth goal of the season. On the play, Nguyen took a pass from Karoly on the right hand side of the box and blasted a shot over the outstretched hands of Woodbury to put TCU on the board.

Following a shot by Karoly, BYU's Katie Larkin netted a goal in the 23rd minute to allow BYU to regain the lead. Karoly almost scored before the half, but watched as her shot sailed wide of the pipes.  Larkin and Nicole Urry would score two more goals late in the period to give BYU a 4-1 advantage at the half. Overall, Nguyen led the TCU offensive attack with three shots, including one on goal in the first half.  Coming out of the break, TCU pressured the Cougars with a solid offense and key defensive stops late in the contest.

Early in the half, Nguyen once again tried to split the posts, but watched as her shot sailed wide. Late in the match, both freshman Chelsea Cody and senior Angie Nickens tried to score from inside the box, but couldn't find the back of the net. Nickens, a senior from Dallas, took a pass off a deflection and rocketed a shot towards BYU goalkeeper Aleena Shelton, but had her shot hit the crossbar.
