Texas A&M scores in last seconds to win Big 12 Tournament

The Big 12 womens soccer title match had all the drama one would expect of a championship match. Megan Majewski fired in a rebound goal with nine seconds left to give the Texas A&M Aggies a thrilling end to their run in the Big 12 Conference with a 1-0 victory over top-seeded Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Soccer Championship on Sunday at Blossom Soccer Stadium. Majeswki's shot came after Kelley Monogue, the Big 12 Newcomer and Offensive Player of the Year, split defenders and fired in a shot that hit off the crossbar.
"I knew that Kelley was going to have a chance," Majewski said. "If she didn't we all had to be there behind her, and get it if she didn't. It came pretty much right to me. I trapped it and got a good hit on it."
It also ended Oklahoma State's 21 game unbeaten streak. The Cowgirls are ranked second in the nation. Second seeded Texas A&M (15-5-2) gets the automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament. Oklahoma State (19-1-2) will get an at-large bid. It's the first time in four championship appearances that the Cowgirls have lost in a conference final, and they had won the last two years. Texas A&M has split its 10 games in the final.
In the final 15 minutes, despite the wind being in the face, the Cowgirls started applying noticeable pressure. There was a glaring opportunity for the Cowgirls in the 78th minute when Aggies freshman goalkeeper Jordan Day got caught outside her own goal box and, after she fell trying to get out to cover a ball, watched as the ball was centered.
Kristen Kelley, who scored the game-winner in the double-overtime semifinal victory over Texas on Friday, was looking at an open goal from 15 yards out. But as quickly as she drew her leg back, Aggies center defender Rachel Lenz blocked the attempt.
The Cowgirls had argued a hand ball in the A&M penalty area with two minutes remaining. They argued it so much that OSU coach Colin Carmichael got a yellow card.
"I can't comment on the officials, but from our perspective there was possibly a handball in the box, which would have been the penalty kick," Carmichael said. " We got upset on our bench. We got cautioned for it. A penalty kick in that situation is probably a 95% chance of scoring. But credit to A&M because they fought to the end and found a way to score."
