Trinity boys look for big year

Could this be the year Trinity makes some noise in the UIL soccer playoffs?  It's been forever and a day since Trinity were true playoff threats.  For years they have been in that 3-6 range at the end of district play and when they did make the playoffs they were a first round exit.  This year could be different though.

Coach Tracy Duren looks to have a good bunch of soccer players.  The Trojans already have some impressive results on the young season as they wins over Birdville and Keller Central while earning a draw with powerful Southlake.  They also won the Kyle Fritz Memorial Tournament.

The team has shown a very solid defense notching six shutouts so far including three in a row. Leading the defense is first year varsity goalkeeper Ian Reyes.

Like most coaches, Duren finds the tournaments a great chance to see his team grow. "It's a level of competition you can't reproduce in the off-season," he said.

Still, Duren knows tournament success doesn't always translate into the regular season and beyond.

"While I'm certainly happy with their success, these preseason games count for nothing when it comes to making the playoffs, so we've never discussed wins and losses. All we've discussed is game improvement. Most teams are tying to find themselves. You have to make sure you're as polished up and ready to go when district play starts."

Trinity plays in District 6-5 along with rivals LD Bell, Grapevine and Colleyville Heritage.  They'll also face the three Irving based schools and Carrollton Turner.  It is looking like the Trojans main competition will come from the Irving schools who all three look solid this year.
