US Under 20s dismantle FC Dallas reserves 3-0

The US Under 20 national team faced off with the FC Dallas reserves last night at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco.  It was the final tuneup for the U20s as they head off to Guatemala today for World Cup qualifying next week.  The youngsters made quite an impression too.

Joseph Gyua, who plays professionally with Hoffenheim in Germany, was a thorn in the FC Dallas side on the wings the entire opening half.  His speed was too much to handle for the young outside backs of FCD.  In the 25th minute Gyua blasted past FCD outside back Jack Coleman getting deep into the penalty area.  Coleman put in a tackle from behind on Gyua as Gyua played a ball at goal.  The trickling ball somehow got past keeper Josh Lambo where Bobby Wood tapped home for the lead.

His ability to penetrate with the ball and under duress to find Bobby Wood with the first goal is pretty unique," said Head Coach Thomas Rongen of Joseph Gyau.

A few minutes later it was Gyua and Wood again linking up.  This time a long Wood cross found Gyua at the backpost.  Gyua went up and fired a header at goal where Lambo was up to the task as he made a fine diving save.

The backbreaker would come just before halftime though as the US Under 20s made it 2-0.  Gyua was again involved as he slotted a perfect pass sending Sebastian Lletget through on goal where he calmly slotte the ball past Lambo.

Both sides made plenty of changes at halftime bringing on new players to get a runout.  New FC Dallas signing Fabian Castillo made his first appearance in a Dallas uniform and he showed flashes of brilliance.  His speed on the left flank put the US on their heels several times.  Unfortunately he was unable to finish once he got in good spots.

Near the end of the match the US would make it 3-0 as #1 overall MLS Draft pick Omar Salgado would knock down a cross for UCLK freshman Kelyn Rowe to fire past FC Dallas keeper Chris Seitz.
